ARCHITECTURAL SHORT FORM SPECS

CRACK ISOLATION WATERPROOF MEMBRANE

PART 1       GENERAL

1.1   SECTION INCLUDES

A. Furnish all labor, materials, and equipment for installation of crack isolation waterproof membrane.

1.2     RELATED SECTIONS

A. Concrete floor finishing.
B. Substrate bondability.
C. Expansion or control joints and components.
D. Joint Sealers: Mildew resistant.
E. Tile or stone materials. Interior and /or exterior.
F. Plumbing Specialties: Floor drains, fixtures.
G. Pan receptors, piping.

1.3     REFERENCES

A. ANSI A137.1 - Standard Specifications for Ceramic Tile, where applicable.
B. TCA (Tile Council of America) - Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation, latest edition and using ANSI 118.4 latex Portland cement mortar.
C. CTI-R6-110-65 Standards of the Tile Trade.
D. Ceramic Tile Institute of America "Tested Materials" list for bonded direct crack isolation membranes.
E. City of Los Angeles, California, Research Report: #4398.

1.4   SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Provide manufacturer’s instructions for use and installation of products.
B. Provide written proof of the following test procedures:
1. Bonded direct/Antifracture tests.
a) Bond Shear Strengths - ASTM C 482 (mod)
b) Tensile Strength - CTI/SE 5763
c) Total System Performance - ASTM C627 (mod)
2. Waterproof Tests.
a) Chemical resistance, indentation, puncture, folding, fungus and micro-organism resistance
b) Dimensional stability - ASTM D1204, -20o F to 212o F
c) Seam, breaking and elongation strength - ASTM D751
d) Hydrostatic Pressure - ASTM D751, A-1
3. Optional Tests.
a) Flammability, ASTM D568-77; ozone resistance, ASTM D1149; gas permeability, ASTM D1434; and volatility test, ASTM D1203-89.

1.5    QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The material and workmanship of the crack isolation waterproof membrane shall be warranted under a single document signed by the Contractor, Manufacturer and Applicator, jointly and severally.

1.6    QUALIFICATIONS

A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing the Products specified in this section with minimum three years documented experience.
B. Installer: Company specializing in performing the work of this Section with minimum three years documented experiencing.

1.7    DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver, store, protect and handle products on site in location as required by manufacturer and existing site conditions.

1.8    ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS/JOB CONDITIONS

A. Install products in an environment in accordance with manufacturer’s printed installation instructions and/or other documentation.
B. Maintain degrees F or degrees C as per installation instruction.

 

PART 2    PRODUCTS

2.1    MANUFACTURER

A. COMPOSEAL GOLD, a product of Compotite Corporation, Los Angeles, California 90026.

2.2    MATERIALS

A. Membrane: Four-ply, 40 mil (nominal) gauge heat fused crack isolation waterproof sheet membrane, packaged in 90 foot and 50 foot rolls, 60 inches wide.
B. Preformed corners for inside and outside configuration for waterproofing.
C. PVC solvent cement for seam welding.
D. Elastiseal for gasket type seal at corners, drains, pipes, fixtures and flashing.

 

PART 3    EXECUTION

3.1    EXAMINATION

A. Verify substrate for conditions of the project.
B. Verify surfaces are ready to receive work and comply to CTI R6-110-65 (Rev. 86) standards of the tile trade.
C. Confirm location of expansion or control joints required and details provided on the drawings.

3.2    PREPARATION

A. Protect surrounding work from damage.
B. Vacuum clean all surfaces and check for bondability.
C. Seal substrate cracks with filler. Level existing substrate surfaces to acceptable flatness tolerances.

3.3    INSTALLATION

A. Plan layout minimize traffic over fresh installation.
B. Install membrane; lap and seal watertight including all edges, ends, and walls.
C. Install adhesive using proper tools, notched trowels, and roller equipment.
D. At waterproof locations provide flood testing prior to floor finish installation.
E. Refer to product manufacturer’s detailed installation requirements and recommended limitations for crack suppression and waterproofing capabilities.

3.4    CLEANING

A. Clean wok and remove all debris or as required by Construction Documents.

3.5    PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK

A. Protect finished work. Close off area to prevent unauthorized traffic.
